Information given to the couples

In order to offer a safe and effective service, a multidisciplinary team should be established. This should include clinical geneticists, obstetricians, embryologists, molecular biologists, cytogeneticists as well as nurses. A close collaboration between these specialists from different disciplines should be clear, informative and kept under strict quality control. The different steps are as follows :

- Genetic counselling,

- Acceptation of the PGD request by the multidisciplinary network licensed for PGD,

- Gynecologic and obstetric investigations,

- Genetic work-up,

- Etc...

Before entering the PGD programme, all couples need to fully understand the processes involved in PGD in terms of :

- IVF/ICSI : risks and efficiency,

- Embryo biopsy,

- Genetic diagnosis and risks of misdiagnosis,

- Prenatal diagnosis, which is always recommended in the event of a successful pregnancy, in order to confirm the PGD diagnosis.

Therefore, couples are required to sign an informed consent.
