Notice to UMD BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 Users about BRCA Share™

INSERM is proud to announce it has co-founded a data-sharing initiative called BRCA Share™ that will provide researchers and commercial organizations access to BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene sequence variant data. At the heart of BRCA Share is the Universal Mutation Database (UMD) of BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene variants. BRCA Share will combine the UMD data with growing de-identified BRCA data from registered research and commercial entities that participate in the program.

Through this initiative, INSERM and its participating research organizations will be able to promote BRCA gene variant research and discovery, through access to insights provided through functional studies and other services not currently part of the UMD database program.

Quest Diagnostics, the world’s leading provider of diagnostic information services, co-founded BRCA Share. In addition to Quest Diagnostics, Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), and the French UNICANCER Genetic Group (UGG), composed of sixteen academic laboratories performing BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing in France, are participants in the program.

Who Can Join BRCA Share
As of June 1st 2015, registration will be required to access the UMD databases of BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene data.

BRCA Share is structured as a user group. Any participant in BRCA Share is expected to timely share their BRCA1 and 2 gene variant data with other users and abide by other customary obligations.
Academic centers, universities and research entities performing BRCA research may participate at no charge. Registration will facilitate communication to users in this dynamic area. Commercial entities are expected to pay fees (on a sliding scale) to help jointly fund enhanced database services, functional studies and cover administration costs.

How to Join BRCA Share?

• Non-commercial individual investigators and academic research organizations:

º Quickly access the BRCA Share data by agreeing to the program’s user group agreement

• Commercial entities:

º Join BRCA Share through a sublicense agreement with Quest Diagnostics.
